Review: This Book Will Teach You How to Write Better

You have a great program you’re trying to sell, but every time you send an e-mail out you get a horrible response. Either you’re too pushy or don’t exactly know what you’re doing. So you want to learn a bit of casual copywriting?

This Book Will Teach You How to Write Better by Neville Medhora is the solution to that problem.

At only around fifty pages, it won’t take you more than thirty minutes to finish the book if you were reading it straight through. Fortunately, you won’t be reading it straight through if you’re anything like me and spent damn near triple that time writing notes. This is what an information product should be: short and to the point. No fluff, all good stuff.

This Book Will Teach You How to Write Better by Neville Medhora in all its glory

There aren’t pages of anecdotes about how much money Neville has made in his life. There aren’t upsells on every other page like other sales books.

There are thirteen chapters in the book, and, apart from the last chapter, every sub-ten page chapter is loaded with information.

The main idea in each chapter of the twelve main chapters is the following:

  1. Words are important
  2. People only care about themselves, so you need to show them the benefit of whatever you’re selling
  3. Write with personality and write with humor. Don’t write like you’re an instruction manual
  4. Write with humor, but not with so much humor that you come off as a comedian. You’re here to sell, not do stand up
  5. Write to be helpful, because new and novel don’t last forever
  6. AIDA is the mack daddy of sales techniques
  7. Know your market and know your product, don’t try to write for the unknown
  8. Be artistic with your writing
  9. Create great subject lines
  10. The length of your copy should be related to the complexity of your product
  11. Dumb it down, this isn’t academic writing, it’s sales
  12. Additional tips about getting into the writing mood

Those are roughly what each chapter is about. Of course, that is an incredibly general overview and the book does a great job at being rich with content, but I can’t give everything away.

The bottom line is this does a great job giving concise basics of copywriting without boring the reader into submission.

This is a perfect solution to those who want to get into copywriting and haven’t yet started. This Book Will Teach You How to Write Better is by no means an end to the mean, but is a great starting point as is enough to start practice copywriting.

The book is less than five dollars.

For five dollars you’ll get a boatload of information about writing for sales. I recommend getting a physical copy for using it as a reference.

Hell, I had the book open while I wrote this.

Big dawgs gotta learn.
