Why I Eat the Same Thing Every Day

It dawned on me the other day that I have been eating the same meal every day for the past 6 days.

Here’s the rundown of the past damn near week:

(optional)Breakfast: 10.6 oz Greek yogurt, 1 scoop whey protein with instant coffee

Lunch: Steak and a loaded baked potato

Dinner: Steak and a loaded baked potato

There are plenty of positive benefits to eating the same thing every day.

When I go to the kitchen I already know what I’m going to eat. There’s no walking back and forth between the cabinets and fridge browsing. I walk in, grab a slab of meat, prep my food and in 10 minutes I’m eating a hearty, healthy meal.

Grocery shopping is a breeze. Serious, I only have to make stops at the meat, dairy, veggies, frozen veggies, and salad toppings. It’s a lap around the store, no in and out of aisles 1-10, just the ends.

I don’t need snacks throughout the day because I eat big. Big dawgs gotta eat, and eating like a king twice a day keeps the bullshit away. Noon and 7 or 8 PM are when I eat, and I stay full.

This is how I prepare every steak and potato meal, like clockwork. Before big dawgs cook- 5 AM, take 2 individually wrapped steaks out of the freezer and drop them into the fridge. Let em thaw out a bit.

12:00 Pull out frying pan, finger splash water into it and put it on the stove, hottest setting.

12:02 When the water is evaporated, drop in a frozen veggie medley of green peppers, onions, red peppers, and orange peppers. I get Bird’s Eye Tri-Pepper and Onion Blend. One bag will last me 3 cooking sessions.

12:03 While the veggies are burning, I prep my potato for microwave use. All I do is decimate the potato with a knife, practicing my self-defense on it. In other words, I’ll either cut it into discs or longways like a normal baked potato. I’ll put it in the microwave with a preset timer of 7 minutes. It depends on how caramelized you want your pepper medley when to add your steak to the pan, and also how cooked you want your steak to be. I like my steak as rare as possible, so cook time is irrelevant and it’s usually still cold in the middle. Delicious. I start my potato.

If you don’t have a splatter shield for your microwave, I highly recommend one. Not only does it keep it clean when you want to heat up some leftovers, it creates a steam room that cooks food really well. Be careful, though, this gets super hot.

12:04 I make room and add my steak to the pan when the microwave reads 6 minutes left.

12:06 At exactly 3 minutes and 33 seconds left on the microwave I flip my steak over. Don’t ask me why, it’s just tradition now.

12:09 When there is 1 minute left on the microwave, I turn off the burner and leave the pan on it. Don’t ask me why, it’s just tradition now.

12:10 The potato is finished, I grab a towel because it’s hot as hell. I take it and put whatever toppings I want on it so it doesn’t taste like a potato anymore. Grab the pan with the steak and veggies in it and dump it on the plate. It’s chow time.

10 minutes and I’m eating big. Any other time it would have taken me 10 minutes to figure out what I was going to eat.

But Justin, doesn’t it get boring eating the same thing every day? Not when you know how to work with spices. Even if you don’t have any knowledge of the spice rack beside garlic salt and pepper, those little McCormick seasoning packets come in pretty handy. Note, I just wanted to give an example of a seasoning packet, experiment at your own discretion.

Next time I go grocery shopping I’ll probably 86 the potatoes for a big bag of salad mix and do the keto thing for a few weeks while I continue on the path of #NoNothingNovember.

I hope you enjoyed this rundown of my steak and potato meals. Any recommendations, let me know below.

And remember, big dawgs gotta eat.
